Get out.
Get wet.
Don't get too wrecked.
Have a great weekend.

Down by the River

A day in the life of a river mouth - a place of work and play, navigating the swell.

"She could drag me
over the rainbow
send me away
down by the river"
from Neil Young Down by the River 1969

The last installment in my homage to Neil Young series (for now). Irrespective of whether you love or loath his music, you have to admire his work ethic - according to Young he wrote this song and Cowgirl in the Sand while sick in bed suffering a 39 degree fever. Keep that note pad handy!

I was a toiler on the sea

Continuing the nautical theme, the Sunshine Coast will welcome home Jessica Watson today after her record breaking solo circumnavigation of the planet. There were plenty of naysayers early on but the 16 year old has proven them all wrong. She is scheduled to sail past Caloundra at 10.00am EST today, then Point Cartwright and on to Alexandra Headland by 12.30pm, before sailing into Mooloolaba Harbour.  Go Jessica!

Question Authority

The button on his tee shirt read "Question Authority". He had just returned from Europe to a party we were having in the Noosa hinterland. We had grown up together. Went to university together. Surfed and explored and camped out under the stars together. That was last century.
Last year we went on surfari with a few crew and scored some beautiful slides around Pensioners' Point. Still surfing. Still mates. Still questioning authority. Happy Birthday, Mark.

Buckets of Rain

The dry ravines of Brinetopia are awash with water as a monsoon trough dumps more rain than you can poke a divining rod at. Grey dreary days made for music and art and sleeping in.

"Buckets of rain
Buckets of tears
Got all them buckets coming out of my ears
Buckets of moonbeams in my hand
You got all the love honey baby
I can stand"
Bob Dylan Buckets of Rain from Blood on the Tracks 1975
